A Rayville man died Nov. 17 when he was ejected from his vehicle after being rear-ended by another vehicle on Interstate 20.
Shortly before 8:20 a.m., Nov.17 Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 20, approximately 6 miles east of the city of Monroe.
The initial investigation by State Police revealed 42-year-old Toshonda Tolliver of Monroe, was driving a 2011 Nissan Armada east on I-20. For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle Tolliver was driving rear-ended a 1996 Ford Ranger, driven by 66-year-old Lindell McManus of Rayville.
After being rear-ended, the Ford Ranger traveled off the road into the median and began overturning. While the vehicle was overturning, McManus, who was unrestrained, was ejected.
McManus was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ouachita Parish Coroner’s Office. Tolliver, who was properly restrained, was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries.
Tolliver was cited for careless operation of a vehicle.
Routine toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
Louisiana law requires vehicle occupants to be restrained in all seating positions, day and night. Wearing a seat belt on every trip, whether it’s short or long, is the most effective thing motorists can do to protect themselves in the event of a crash. Motorists are encouraged to always make the smart choice and to wear their seat belt.
In 2016, Troop F has investigated 32 fatal crashes resulting in 33 deaths.
