Rayville’s Micaela Wilson has signed a letter of intent to play basketball for the Kansas University Jayhawks.
“After a long thought process, I decided to further my education and basketball career at Kansas University,” Wilson said. “I felt that Kansas was the right choice and where I needed to be.
The Kansas Jayhawks are an uprising program and Wilson says she is excited to be a part of the Jayhawk family.
“I have been on KU campus twice and each time the feeling was the same in that I was at home,” she said “Kansas University fans are amazing and the coaches staff made me feel that I am home away from home which is important to me. The coaches staff at Kansas University care about me as a person rather than a basketball player. They stress family values and team goals. I will be playing in the Legendary Allen Field House. The atmosphere in there is unbelievable.”
Wilson added that she would like to thank everyone who has supported her, the Richland Parish community and surrounding parishes for supporting and believing in her.
“I am deeply appreciative of all the schools who have recruited me over the years and the decision I made was one of the hardest decisions I had to make. In the end I know I made the right decision.
“I am extremely appreciative to my high school coach Jokerria Sneed and AAU coaches (Monroe Lady Lightning, Team Arkansas Elite, Lady Pumas, and DFW T-Jack) who have pushed me over the years to come out of my comfort zone. To all of you I say thank you. Last but not least, to my family. I love you more than you know. Thank you for loving me, supporting me and just being there. To my mom thank you for pushing me and making me go to the gym when I didn’t want to go. Thank you for encouraging and motivating me when there were times I wanted to quit but you wouldn’t let me. Thank you for seeing the best in me and inspiring me to be the best player I can be. I just want to thank you for everything you did for me. Momma I love you so much.”
Wilson is the daughter of Tammy Wilson and Abdoul Wilson and the big sister to Xavier and Landon Wilson. She is the granddaughter of Henry Green Sr. and Cora Woods and the great granddaughter of Janie Robinson all of Rayville.
