An open gas cap landed an Oklahoma City woman in jail recently.
Rayville Police Chief Willie Robinson said RPD Officer Joshua Green observed a vehicle in motion with its gas tank cover open and the cap dangling from the vehicle.
Green initiated a traffic stop in order to inform the driver of the problem.
At that time, he discovered the driver, Special Long, 26, of 2216 N.E. 26th St., Oklahoma City, Okla., didn’t have a driver’s license or registration for the vehicle.
Long was then placed in the back of Green’s police car and asked for permission to search her vehicle.
Sgt. Czys Williams was then asked to come to the seen where he and Green searched the vehicle, discovering several different pills, a glass smoking pipe containing suspected marijuana residue, a grinder and a pack of cigarette rolling papers.
Long was then charged with no driver’s license, failure to carry registration, possession of a Schedule III Dangerous Substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.
Robinson said he’d like to comment Green and Williams for their handling of the case.
“Thanks to Officer Green’s diligence in monitoring traffic, we were able to take some illegal drugs off the street,” the chief said.
Chief Robinson advised that persons intent on being involved in drug activity should be aware that he and his officers will find them and put a stop to that activity.
“We have a zero-tolerance policy for drug activity or any other crime that endangers the safety of our citizens,” the chief said.
