FEMA External Affairs official Maria Padron wants to remind people who have suffered from flooding damage that even though the registration period and disaster recovery centers have both closed, survivors can still get help from FEMA by calling the helpline.

Call 800-621-3362 to learn about appealing determination letters, inquire about the status of your registration, update personal information or ask any other questions.

Residents may also prepare to protect property before the next storm comes along by buying flood insurance through the National Flood Insurance Program. Go online to www.FloodSmart.gov or call the NFIP helpdesk at 800-427-4661 for more information.

“You can help disaster survivors take the crucial recovery step of returning home,” Padron said. “Go online at www.volunteerlouisiana.gov or email eenauck@crt.la.gov and be put in touch with a voluntary group in need. You may also consider joining or starting recovery efforts with your church or civic group.”

So far the total number of people registering for help statewide is 39,890 with $177,609,505 in funding approved.
