Rayville Chief of Police Willie Robinson said his department has broken up an area-wide theft ring.
Robinson said Sgt. Czyz Williams observed a suspicious vehicle in the vicinity of the back door of Wal-Mart Super Center on March 16. Due to some recent thefts in Rayville and surrounding areas, Williams initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. Investigator Jerry Davis responded as backup. While Williams conducted a search of the vehicle, Davis viewed video surveillance footage inside the store. A large amount of suspected cocaine was also found in the vehicle.
This led to two arrests.
Laterrius Curry, 24, of 505 Martin Luther King Ave., Vidalia, was charged with attempted felony theft, possession of Schedule II CDS with intent to distribute and resisting arrest by flight.
Michael Taylor, 38, of 102 Ferriday Drive, Ridgecrest, was charged with attempted felony theft and possession of Schedule II CDS with intent to distribute.
Chief Robinson would like to commend Williams and Davis for their handling of this case.
“They combined their knowledge of local current events with due diligence enabled them to bring these two subjects to justice,” the chief said.
