A 19-year-old Rayville man was arrested Friday in connection with a Wednesday shooting death in Delhi.
Louisiana State Police arrested Johntaviuos Sledge, 19, of 316 Russell Street, APT# 53, Rayville, at 9:30 p.m. July 15. He was charged with one count of second degree murder and two counts of attempted second degree murder and booked into the Richland Parish Detention Center.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. No further information is available at this time.
"I would like to thank the Louisiana State Police Detective Division, Richland Parish Sheriff Office, Rayville Police Department and Madison Parish Sheriff Office," Delhi Police Chief Roy Williams said. "I would also like to thank my staff for their hard work and dedication and would like everyone to keep the family of Quatarious Jones uplifted in prayer."
Williams said Quatarious Jones, 22, of Delhi, was shot four times with an AR-15 around 5 p.m. July 13.
"The three young men were walking east on Second Street toward U.S. 80," Williams said. "When they reached the intersection of Charter and Second streets, a vehicle pulled up behind them. A black male got out of the rear passenger seat and fired six rounds from an AR-15."
Williams said four of the bullets struck Jones, killing him. The other two men sustained minor injuries. Police believe three or four people were in the shooter's vehicle.
"We had video from several people in the neighborhood and from a business," Williams said. "We're looking at that from every angle trying to get a license plate number for the vehicle to help track down the people who did this."
Police were able to identify the vehicle used in the murder as a 2015-2018 model black Chevy Tahoe with chrome rims and further investigation led to Sledge's arrest.
